Chummy Digits is an illustration project in which I’m depicting a series of every day situation and jobs in a simple comic style. These comic illustrations each show a character engaged in a specific action. The name “Chummy Digits” derives from the thumb-like head shape of the depicted characters.
The goal of Chummy Digits did not only consist in creating coherent and appealing drawings, but finding a consistent and recognizable style for the entirety of artworks as well. In this way even the entire gallery of these comic illustrations is meant to feel familiar for the viewer.
In order to accomplish this, it was neccessary to find a clearly defined set of shapes. The characteristic heads and proportions of the characters play an important role in this. On top of that, determining a color palette helps with creating a theme that is present in all artworks.
In order to emphasize the distinct style of these drawings, I originally decided to publish them on a separate Instagram account:
The homogenous look of the pictures gives the Instagram gallery a consistent design. The stripped-down style allowed for more than one comic illustration to be published per day. In this way, I was able to create a relatively large amount of content in a short time.
Further below you can see the pictures from the Cummy Digits series. The gallery present here on my page basically mirrors the illustrations found on the Instagram account.
Maybe your project would benefit from comic illustrations or mascots in this or similar styles? If that is the case, don’t hesitate to contact me.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

This is a look behind the scenes for the creation of the wimmelpicture on my home page.
Visitors of my website should understand at first sight that I'm all about drawings and illustrations. I also want to convey what I am capable of achieving in that area. For these reasons one of the first elements that is visible on the home page is a picture with 92 distinct drawn characters. In the center of it is my logo, which I'm just finishing to draw.
